To help myself and others write bawdy comedy and humor, I use the tools, tips and techniques of the pros--and I provide lots of good (and some bad) examples. Hey, it's a learning experience for me too.

About Me & You

Hi there…

imgp1260-11I can’t say too much about you, but I know this: you have a sense of humor; you’re here because you think you’re funny; you really are funny; or you’d like to be funny. Or maybe you just want to be better at something you’re already just naturally good at doing. Anyway, regardless of why you’re here, I’m delighted that you showed up.

This blog, Jack Rawlins’ “How to Write Humor,” can help anyone (well, almost anyone) write material designed to amuse others and earn laughs, chuckles, and smiles—and sometimes dollars, too. To do the job, I mine the collective expertise of both amateur and professionals, and offer examples of my own material that some reviewers think are pretty darn funny.

You should know; I use my name to build my brand, not my ego. Every byline is a personal effort to help you remember me and earn your trust and respect.

Together, we can get a lot out of the material you’ll find in these posts. It’s an eclectic collection– not a step-by-step tutorial. I’m not good at linear thinking. For me, it’s restrictive.

Here’s my bio: I’m a veteran of many major and minor sales and marketing wars, plus a real one in Korea (Navy). I’m a Temple U grad with journalism and marketing major and have over 50 years in the trenches in B-2-B, and B-2-C marketing, sales and freelance writing.

So?

Good question.

Okay. Here’s what I bring to the party: The wisdom that comes with age and experience (for those who pay attention), plus a sincere desire to be helpful. (I took the Boy Scout Law very seriously and it helped shape my life and philosophy.)

I believe teachers, preachers, coaches, mentors, and entertainers do a lot for this world. How lucky I am that I’m free to choose which of those hats to wear when I post and offer you ideas to help you write humor.
